Auction house Christie’s is conducting an online auction of 106 Chanel costume jewels that were owned by Susan Gutfreund. The collection of runway jewels, bought between 1980 to 1990 by House of Chanel, were given to Gutfreund by her friend and renowned designer Karl Lagerfeld. Accessories like necklaces, earrings, bracelets, brooches, cuff bracelets, bangles, hair combs, pendants, and belts are part of this beautiful auction.
The online bid will be conducted between January 14 to 29 and has several handmade and exquisite jewels, which reflect Lagerfeld’s ideas for Chanel runway shows. This auction is part of a larger collection called ‘The Collection of Mr and Mrs John H. Gutfreund’ that also includes decorative arts and furniture that graced their New York apartment on 5th Avenue and books and bindings.
John Gutfreund was an American investor, banker and businessman, who was popularly known as the ‘King of Wall Street’. He was the CEO of Salomon Brothers. He and his wife were friends with the late Karl Lagerfeld, who was the Creative Director of the French fashion house.
The highest bidding price of jewellery is expected to up to fetch up to 1,63,000$.
