For the ultimate fanatics of luxury watches and cars, the new collaboration between Tag Heuer and Porsche is a milestone moment. You see, the two brands share an interesting history.
First, the iconic Tag Heuer watch, Carrera, was named after ‘Carrera Panamericana’, which was dubbed as a highly dangerous border-to-border sports car race of the 50s. This is how Tag Heuer stepped into the world of automobiles and motorsports. Similarly, Porsche’s popular ‘911 Carrera’ was inspired by the carmaker’s win in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana.
Then, during the filming of the auto racing movie Le Mans (1970), actor Steve McQueen wore Tag Heuer’s square-dial automatic Monaco Chronograph while driving a Porsche 917.
And now, in 2021, the Swiss watch brand and the German carmaker have released a special-edition watch together – the Tag Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph.
The 44mm watch is powered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 automatic movement and has an impressive power reserve of 80-hours. The dial’s steely-textured asphalt effect signifies a passion for on-road adventures, while the Arabic numerals on it resemble the numbers on a Porsche sports car.
The logos of both brands are inscribed clearly on the timepiece. The ‘Carrera’ and ‘Tag Heuer’ insignia sit on the dial and the glossy black bezel flaunts the ‘Porsche’ script. And its transparent case back has been redesigned and inspired by Porsche’s powerful steering wheel.
Overall, this sporty timepiece is clad with the carmaker’s key colours of red, black and grey. One can choose from its interlocking steel bracelet or a soft calf-leather strap, adorned with an edgy stitching pattern, which mirrors the sophisticated interiors of a Porsche.
