A day to celebrate the dram, World Whisky day is finally here. Shatbhi Basu, a renowned bartender, beverage consultant, and the author of The Can’t Go Wrong Book of Cocktails, shares her top whisky cocktail recipes for you to celebrate the World Whisky Day.

Whisky cocktail recipes 101
Pomegranate & Grapefruit Whisky Sour
Glass: Old Fashioned
60ml Paul John Brilliance Single Malt
15ml lime juice
15ml/ 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
60ml fresh pomegranate juice
30ml fresh grapefruit/pink pomelo juice
2 drops of Angostura bitters
Garnish: Pomegranate seeds, grapefruit slice/zest
Fill 3/4th of the mixing tin with ice
Add whisky, lime juice, sugar and juices
Shake and strain it into an ice-filled rocks glass.
Garnish with pomegranate seeds and grapefruit slice/zest
Marmalade Old Fashioned
Glass: Old fashioned
60ml Woodford Reserve
1 teaspoon orange marmalade
2/3 drops of bitters/1/2 spoon Campari
A sprig of fresh thyme or 2 pinches clove powder
Orange slice/zest, thyme for garnishing
Add one bar spoon of orange marmalade in straight rocks glass along with a few thyme leaves or cloves.
Muddle the thyme/clove powder with the marmalade using a spoon to release the spice flavours.
Add the bourbon, bit by bit, and mix the marmalade and whiskey together
Fill glass with ice cubes and stir well to mellow and cool
Add the bitters and then the garnish.
Edited Espresso Martini
Glass: Pre chilled Martini/Coupe
45ml Paul John Edited Single Malt
15ml Espresso Shot/ 30ml black coffee
5ml Monin Hazelnut syrup/10ml Frangelico or Amaretto
Garnish: KitKat/tempered chocolate roll
Fill glass with ice and keep aside to chill.
Fill mixing tin with ice.
Add all the ingredients and shake.
Strain the drink in another shaker and give it a dry shake.
Empty the ice from the glass and shake dry.
Strain into the pre-chilled glass.
Add the garnish.
Glass: Rocks + dome
30ml Maker’s Mark
15ml Desmondji Orange liqueur
15ml sweet Vermouth or red wine
1 frozen orange and sweet lime sphere (optional)
Garnish: Orange zest, thyme
Fill mixing glass with ice
Add all the ingredients on ice and stir
Strain the mixture over fruit ice sphere* or ice cubes in a rocks glass
Add a dash of orange/Angostura bitters or both
Add the garnish.
*Make ice spheres with 50-50 orange and sweet lime juice with one stem of thyme
