One of the first beachwear designer brands in India, Shivan & Narresh by Shivan Bhatiya and Narresh Kukreja is known for its luxury holiday wear collections. The latest unveil of Shivan & Narresh’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection Seoul Series took a lot of us fashion enthusiasts by surprise; first, because it introduced South Korea’s fashion vocabulary to India and second, because of how effortlessly their Indian aesthetics were integrated with the East-Asian country’s street culture.
South Korea’s capital Seoul is popular for its ambitious and high-fashion culture, a departure from the Western styles. Seoul Fashion Week’s debut in 2015 garnered much attention and praise from the American and European designers, which also led to the country becoming one of the leading fashion capitals in Asia. On the buzzing streets and lanes of Seoul, one would witness oversized silhouettes, ruffles and laces as some of the major style components worn by Koreans.
Taking hints from the design palette of Seoul, Shivan & Narresh meticulously crafted a gorgeous range of outfits for men and women, perfect for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2020 season.
A funky reinterpretation of a jumpsuit, Shivan & Narresh calls this blooming yellow piece the Gyum-Akua ruffled jumpsuit. It is paired with a Bujog Skeinwork Belt and Hibiscus Gat Hat.
Fierce yet understated, this outfit flaunts the Seoul Soul signature print. The set features a Seoul Soul-Kebia Jumper, Seoul Soul Skort (short and skirt) and Kebia Gat Hat.
Artsy prints define this S/S2020 collection, and generously so, Shivan & Narresh designed this blush pink ensemble of a Morning Calm Quilted Jacket and the Morning Calm Draped Sari.
The pulsating energy of Seoul’s Itaewon area translates well into this colourful set of Mujigay Turtle Tee, Mujigay Jacket, Kebia Taffeta Trouser and a black Kon Bag.
A dramatic mix of sheer and volume, this Kebia Sheer Bustier is beautifully done with Amoeba Patchwork and matched to the tee with the Morning Calm Voluminous Pants.
One of the prominent elements in the Seoul Series has been the use of Amoeba hand embroidery. Making a strong case for this print, the Hibiscus & Ruby Bomber Jacket highlights the Amoeba Patchwork, teamed with Amoeba Belt and Kebia Leatherite Trousers.
A lot of South Korean clothing is often underlined with quilted patterns. Inspired from the technique, Shivan & Narresh brings a glamorous twist to the multi-layered fabric, showcased in this Quilted metallic foil set of a bustier, long skirt and Gat hat.
