The visuals of thick molten chocolate pouring generously on this super fancy designer handbag on my Instagram feed played on loop, ten times over. I was hooked.
Balmain recently posted 16-second video that introduced the French fashion house’s new range of Le Chocolat handbags. Of course, the original bag is not coated with bittersweet cocoa, but Balmain went all out to leverage the power of decadent chocolate, in its social media film campaign. It was shot in collaboration with Perfect, an art direction company.

Le Chocolat is priced at a whopping $2,995 (approximately 2.18 lakhs). Mirroring a real chocolate bar, the smooth-textured brown calfskin handbag features 3D squares on the body and its flap.
A delectable accessory that doubles up as an investment piece, Balmain’s Le Chocolat bag can be a great conversation starter. It is experimental and equally attractive.
One can style it as a crossbody or a hand tote, thanks to its detachable leather strap and sturdy leather handle. The bag has been made in two colour options, dark chocolate and lighter milk chocolate, adding a playful, thematic touch to the collection.
The French are known for their love for sinful desserts, and it is likely that the Maison’s Creative Director, Olivier Rousting, himself was inspired by France’s rich legacy of everything sweet and gourmet. He recently wrote on Instagram that this new bag launch is dedicated to the gourmandizes and the daring declarations of love associated with chocolate.
