This three-storied bungalow in South Kolkata’s posh locale of Queen’s Park is a modern haven of thoughtfully curated luxury. Interior consulting firm, A Square Designs’ Ajay Arya not only designed the layout of this house, but also styled its interiors that scream subtle opulence.
The bungalow covers about 6,000 sq ft. of area, and is built for a family of a young couple, a small child and grandparents.
The client’s demand was to make the home look ‘upscale’ and flood it with natural light. And for the night, an array of statement lights should embrace the space.
The first floor of the bungalow is a lounge area and the top two floors are joint duplex for the family. If one looks closely, the wall panellings, moldings and exquisitely carved ceilings lend the entire house a sense of depth.
Designed splendidly, the lounge extends to a bar and a gaming zone, a perfect area for entertainment away from the main living quarters. The sofa, centre table and a creamy white rug occupy the heart of the room in a crisp blend of tobacco brown and charcoal grey. The flooring flaunts a classy, vintage-esque dark wooden texture.
The second level houses a formal living area, dining room, powder room, kitchen and the bedroom of the grandparents. There are two bedrooms and a guest room on the third level. A media room on the same floor doubles up as a library as well as a study-work area.
The bedroom interiors have been kept minimal with a few accent pieces. The colour palette too remains earthy. An en-suite bathroom and a cool walk-in closet makes for a lavish master bedroom.
The entire house has been accessorised with lights and chandeliers from Klove. To enhance the visuals of the house, the designer suggested installing artworks of artists Vinita Karim, Manu Parekh, Seema Kohli to Umakant Kanade.
The edgy yet neat furniture seen in this Kolkata home are all custom made by Ajay Arya’s bespoke design studio, Ochre At Home.
