Luxebook Top 50 2022

Founder and Creative Director, Aisha Rao Hyderabad-based designer Aisha Rao is known for bold graphic prints and redefining how traditional Indian lehengas are created. Aisha Rao graduated as a lawyer from an Indian National Law School, NUJS but went on to pursue design at IED-Barcelona, Spain, where she studied Sewing and Garment Construction at Parsons School of Design, New York, starting the eponymous label in 2017. Aisha’s primary vision lay in creating unique upcycled luxury occasion wear. Her signature largely relies on the appliqué technique whereby fabric waste comes together in sizeable motifs and bold colours with a laborious overlay of aari, zardozi, and macrames. She finds inspiration from the past, “I am an old soul and so much of my work is actually about being transportive.” She cherishes the home she is building as her most prized luxury possession, and you can often find her enjoying a meal at Masque in Mumbai. On vacations, she makes her way to quaint European town, and she would love to own an RR Phantom. “I absolutely love Luxebook. It is my go-to for all things luxury.” Aisha Rao Being unconventional she doesn’t love polished diamonds, rather stones and uncuts/polkis. CEO, Tribe Amrapali Akanksha Arora’s love for jewellery designing was cemented when she married Tarang Arora, son of Rajiv Arora, the co-founder of Amrapali Jewels. Feeling the need to bring about a change in the retail landscape, Arora created the sub-brand Tribe Amrapali which captures the ethos of the Amrapali brand while being more accessible to a younger, more modern audience. As the CEO of Tribe Amprali, Arora overlooks the design and innovation involved in creating jewellery for Tribe Amrapali. She ensures that while the jewellery is modern in its design, it still resonates with the mother brand. Under her dynamic leadership, Tribe Amrapali has grown extensively, with nine outlets across the country and an international store in Dubai, with a second one coming up in Maldives. Over the past decade, Arora has worked towards transforming the landscape of modern jewellery design in India. “Women have a superpower to juggle life between work and family. Balance is important and it is a superpower that all of us women have.” Akanksha Arora 8 | | 9
