ART, DECOR & DESIGN Bose Krishnamachari Artist, Curator & President, Kochi Biennale Foundation B ose Krishnamachari is an internationally acclaimed Malayali painter and artist-curator based in Mumbai, India. He completed his Masters in Visual Art Theory and Practice from Goldsmiths College, University of London (1999-2000) and also taught at JJ School of Art in the year 1992. His artistic and curatorial practice includes drawing, painting, sculpture, design, installation and architecture. Bose also exhibited in several important solo and group exhibitions around the world; besides being an artist and curator, Bose is also an avid art collector. Bose Krishnamachari created Gallery BMB in Mumbai in 2009 for contemporary art. In 2010, the Kerala State Government invited him to India’s first international biennale of contemporary art. Last year, Bose curated one of the largest shows where he brought over 3,000 works by 267 Malayali artists, in five venues in Alappuzha for the Lokame Tharavadu (The World is One Family) showcase. “From an artist’s point of view, art has given confidence to the public, not just locally but globally through its contribution to the economy. Art making has become a collective practice rather than an individual practice.” | 75
